Drug crimes represent the single largest category of prosecutions at all levels, federal and state. Approximately 55% of the people in federal prison, and 25% of the people in state prison, are there for drug related offenses. Illegal drugs, and drug crimes, run the gamut from street dealt heroin and cocaine, to suburban prescription abuse. Patients with legally valid medical marijuana cards can find themselves targeted in the drug case. Children have even been charged for abusing Ritalin. It is incredibly easy for any family to suddenly find themselves with a loved one accused of a drug crime.
The defense of drug crimes is legally complex, in particular because this area of the law typically involves the search and seizure of one's home, car, or person. If you, or a loved one, are facing a drug charge you need an advocate who can aggressively seek to suppress evidence, and enforce your constitutional rights. Our office places a great emphasis on motion practice and arguing complex constitutional issues before all levels of courts. We have the experience, and the legal skill, to give you a level playing field in a drug prosecution.
Also, we recognize that a drug charge can also be a family wake-up call. It is okay to want to defend a loved one against a criminal charge, while recognizing that they may need help. If you need help, we're here. We will work with you, and your loved ones, to put you in touch community resources for coping with addiction, treatment, and rebuilding your life.
